What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a phenomenon which occurs primarily in women but sometimes in men as well. Uneven tension within the hypodermal layer of fat creates an uneven skin surface and dimpling. Hypertrophied adipocytes, trapped lymph and poor circulation all contribute to the cellulite phenomenon.

How does the VelaSmooth improve the appearance of cellulite?

The VelaSmooth combines gentle light and radio frequency energies (elōsTM) with mechanical rollers and vacuum suction to manipulate the superficial fat tissue layer that contributes to cellulite. The heat from the light and RF energies increases metabolism of this fatty layer and shrinks the size of fat cells. The mechanical rollers and vacuum suction act on the blood vessels to increase circulation to the local area, as well as massaging the skin to achieve a smoother, less dimpled surface appearance.

How often are treatments done?

The initial treatment series consists of 16 treatment sessions- treatments are performed twice a week. Some patients see the improvements as soon as 10-12 sessions, others may need the full 16 sessions. Maintenance treatments are typically done once a month after the initial series in order to keep up the results achieved. Each treatment session is between 45-60 minutes long but this time varies depending on your size and how many treatment sites are indicated.

How many treatments are needed?

Most patients achieve noticeable improvement after 10 sessions, and first start seeing a difference after the first few treatment sessions. Treatments are performed twice weekly. Some patients with more severe cellulite or lipodystrophy would benefit after 12-16 sessions in the initial treatment series. Maintenance treatments are done monthly thereafter.

What are my pre-treatment instructions?

• shave any hair in the treatment area the day before treatment
• avoid waxing for a few days before treatment
• exfoliate the treatment area thoroughly on the day of treatment with an exfoliating wash
• discontinue aspirin or anticoagulants to reduce risk of bruising 3-4 days before treatment                  

What happens after each treatment?

The treated area may appear flushed or pink from the heat for a short while, and may feel warm for several hours after treatment. One can resume normal activities immediately. The patient should avoid direct heating of the treated area on the same day such as heating pads, hot-tub or jacuzzi.

Is treatment with the VelaSmooth™ safe?

Treatment is very safe for all skin colors and can be performed even on tanned skin. There are no long-term health hazards from light or RF energies.
