What is a Dermal Filler?

Dermal fillers are bioabsorbable materials that can be safely

injected below the surface to raise the level of the skin.

They are especially formulated to correct moderate to

     severe facial wrinkles.

    Examples of dermal fillers are:

  •  collagen (Cosmoplast)

  •   hyaluronic acid (Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm)

  •   calcium hydroxylapatitie (Radiesse)

How are wrinkles corrected?

As we age, the skin loses some of its fullness due to the effects of gravity, aging, weather, etc. These effects can be corrected with simple injections of dermal fillers, which are naturally absorbed into the system over time. The appearance of wrinkles and facial folds can be smoothed by adding volume underneath and bringing the skin back up to the surface.

Which facial areas can be treated?

Soft tissue fillers are used in facial contouring to add volume to tissue in facial areas such as cheekbones, lips, lip corners ("marionette" lines), hollow areas under eyes, jaw lines, nasolabial folds, mental fold, deep forehead lines. It is possible to treat linear scars on the face with dermal fillers as well.

What happens during the treatment with dermal filler?

Wrinkle correction with dermal fillers is an in-office procedure. You sit in a chair while we inject the filler into wrinkles and folds. We usually apply topical and local anesthesia before treatment to avoid any  discomfort.

It generally takes about 30-45 minutes for a consultation and treatment.

What should I expect after a treatment?

We will review with you what to expect following the treatment and we will send you home with details for aftercare treatment.

In general: treatment with dermal fillers can be completed in a short office visit and require little or no recovery time.

You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours:

                  -strenuous exercise

                  -consumption of alcoholic beverages

-extended exposure to sun or heat (sauna, jacuzzi)

      How long will results last?

Remember that correction is temporary and touch-up injections as well

as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal correction

       with any dermal filler.

  • Restylane - up to 6 months
  • Juvederm or Perlane- up to 9 months
  • Radiesse - up to 20 months

Restylane® vs. Perlane® Filler

Perlane® is primarily the same product as Restylane®, but Perlane® filler contains a larger concentration of hyaluronic acid. Because of this higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, Perlane® is usually used for larger folds, while Restylane® is better suited for smaller wrinkles or to maintain the results of a previous Perlane® injection.
