Microdermabrasion

What is Medical Microdermabrasion?

The benefits of Microdermabrasion are well known.

Smooth, even texture, better color   and  a younger

appearance are what has made Microdermabrasion one of

the most popular procedures  in spas across the country.   Medical Microdermabrasion is a safe, effective, non-surgical  method for exfoliation. This method helps reduce the appearance of scars, wrinkles and aids in pigment correction. It rejuvenates the skin by removing dull, lifeless, sun damaged epidermal tissue while stimulating the production of new collagen and creating healthy new cells. By increasing oxygenation of the new  skin, Medical Microdermabrasion gives a toned, younger appearance with a smoother texture for a more vital complexion.

What is the difference between Medical and Standard Microdermabrasion?

Standard microdermabrasion only removes the top five to ten layers of the Stratum Corneum (top layer of the skin), depending on age, health and skin damage. Medical microdermabrasion results in complete removal of all epidermal layers (Stratum Corneum), exposing upper dermal tissue. This safe, effective therapy improves skin on a deeper level, for better, longer lasting results. Little

to no downtime can be expected.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Microdermabrasion?

Men and women of any skin color or skin type with minor skin problems are good candidates for microdermabrasion. The procedure removes the epidermal layers of the skin to alleviate many skin imperfections, including fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, aging skin, sun damage, acne, scars, and blemishes. For people with dry skin, it removes dead skin cells for a smoother, more polished look. For those with oily skin, it unclogs pores and improves the skin's texture. Microdermabrasion is for anyone who wants to improve skin appearance and reverse the signs of aging.

How is Microdermabrasion done?

Using a hand-held device with gentle pressure and vacuum,

medical grade aluminum oxide micro crystals are propelled

across the surface of the skin to abrade the superficial layers.

As the crystals contact the skin, they gently and precisely

remove old, dead, and flaking epidermal cells and exfoliate

and polish the skin beneath. Each treatment is customized for the individual's skin needs, and lasts about 45 minutes. The results of microdermabrasion are apparent immediately after the treatment, although additional treatments are necessary to achieve maximum effects.

Before the Treatment

You must be off Accutane and topical exfoliants such as Retin-A, Retinol, and Renova for a period of time prior to treatment. If you have a history of herpes, fever blisters, cold sores, or shingles, prophylactic medication may be necessary. It is recommended not to sunbathe or tan before or during the series of treatments.

After the Treatment

The daily use of sunscreen is necessary after microdermabrasion, as the treatment can cause photosensitivity. You should also avoid the use of glycolic acids and exfoliants for 2 to 3 days post treatment.

Who's NOT a Candidate?

Microdermabrasion is not recommended for people who are sunburned, have an active skin infection or fever blisters, or those with uncontrolled diabetes or certain immune disorders.
